Slice of Life: Happiness is Found on the Playground 5 of 31

Here we go!  It's time for the March Slice of Life Challenge hosted at Two Writing Teachers.  It will be a busy month of writing, commenting, and learning with this community.  This year I've decided to try to focus my writing around happiness.  Stop by today's link up to join the conversation or find some great reading.

At the end of a long school day, we all look forward to getting home, taking off our shoes, enjoying a good dinner, and finding some time to relax.  It seems like that's what we should do, but tonight as school ended our library media center began to fill with people.  One after another teachers arrived from other buildings within, and beyond, our district.

Not everyone knew one another, but after introducing ourselves and getting started, teachers quickly began chatting and collaborating.  Tonight was our first Digital Maker Playground LIVE workshop.  Julie Johnson and I have started the Digital Maker Playground, a MOOC-like digital maker space.  Our community connects through a Google Plus community site, and has grown to over 50 participants.  Community members live near and far.  We have members in our district, just outside of district, across the United States, and a few global participants.

Tonight's LIVE workshop, was for local participants who wanted to come in to work on their "makes" with support available.  Teachers from Hilliard, Dublin and Upper Arlington were in attendance as we worked together to compose digital pieces to show our "maker spaces."  We talked about applications and the messages we hoped to create.  We problem solved together and made new discoveries.

As children, everything we needed to know we probably learned on the playground:  how to make friends, how to get along with others, how to take turns, how to help one another, how to try and try again, and how to use our imagination.  Maybe some things never change.  Today we made new friends, helped each other out, chatted together, and used our imaginations.  No matter your age, happiness can always be found on the PLAYGROUND.

Interested in joining us?  We'd love for you to play with us on the playground.  You can find out more here.

  4. I had hoped to to come over but conferences last night and sick daughters tonight with a conference tonight for my own prevented it. I hope to join the LIVE version too because we all need a little playground time in our lives.

  5. What a great time! Although I hesitate to add "one more thing" to my plate, I strive to learn something new and not just fall back on the same old programs and apps that I always use. So, when I set out to make my creation, I was excited to get the opportunity to hear about and play around with some new apps. Thanks for providing us this opportunity! I look forward to the next one. And I hope you can join us too, Mandy! It's a great learning community.
