National Poetry Month: The Modern Family Gathering 8 of 31

The Modern Family Gathering
Checkered squares fill my screen.
Family members join the room.
Siblings,
Parents,
Children,
Niece and nephews.

For over a year
we have gathered on Thursdays.
Updates,
Chatting,
Laughter,
Stories aplenty.

In that time
we have had big announcements:
Two new babies,
Job announcements,
An upcoming wedding,
And a retirement.

Our chats have moved from weekly
to biweekly still we
Check in,
Show up,
Catch up,
Continuing the event.

This week's Zoom event an introduction
to the newest baby in the family.
Stories,
Updates,
Celebrations,
Gathering pandemic style.

It's National Poetry Month. This month, I'll be on the lookout for JOY this year. In an effort to CHOOSE JOY, I'll share a poem each day this month about what I find.

  1. It is wonderful to read your poem about your family gatherings, Cathy, a history of the year! Those babies will have a lot to tell when they grow up!
