Science?: Poem 2 of 30

Today is my second day of writing poetry for National Poetry Month.  My inspiration today came from our science lesson.  Our class is studying matter.  We made root beer floats to observe a solid, liquid, and a gas.  We used our ingredients to change matter.  The class enjoyed learning with food.  ;o)  I decided to write a poem about our fun experiment.

Science?
Scoop
icy
velvety
vanilla ice-cream.

Pour
fizzy
bubbly
root beer.

Drink

frosty
root beer float.

There are lots of great National Poetry Month events taking place on the web.  Check my sidebar for links.

  1. I love the idea of using a root beer float to study matter! Love this simple poem about a very tasty treat also.

  2. Who knew that a root beer float was more than a delectable treat? I hope you are sharing your poems with your kids -- the poems are meant to be read aloud and enjoyed. Double the learning fun!

  4. Extremely scientific here, Cathy. And quite fun. I never thought of the gas part before. Bet the students loved it too. And, like Michelle, hope you are sharing!

  7. Oh my goodness. I want to come to your science class, where do I sign up! It's ice cream but more importantly my grandmother loved to make rootbeer floats when it was really hot on the lake in the summer. I might be able to take your experience and turn it into a memoir!

Congrats on being a published poet on Two Writing Teachers.

  10. Your students are so lucky!!!! I think you have gotten all of us hungry for a root beer float now. I like how even your science lesson brings a poem to you. I am so glad that they put your poem out there for all to see. And you, my friend, you are quite the writer.
