Stalker: A Poem for Poetry Friday

Today I'm joining the poetry Friday conversation hosted at Reflections on the Teche with poem inspired by my cat who seems to have two personalities.

Stalker
she lounges
in the warm sun
on patio chairs
purring softly

our sweet gray
tiger cat
peacefully
waiting for attention

then
without warning
she leaps
to her feet

stealthily
she saunters
like a shadow
through tall grass

feathered creatures
flit
from tree
to tree

they don't see her
watching
peering
planning

slowly she steps
one paw
in the tall green grass
patiently pausing

another step
closer
to her unsuspecting
victim

our gray tiger cat
peaceful
predator
with bad intentions

  1. You've captured the cat's mystique in this lovely poem. Fascinating creatures, always in control . . .

  2. The huntress and the cuddlepuss all rolled into one... what amazing creatures these little domesticated tigers are! "Peaceful predator with bad intentions"... love that!

  3. "tiger cat" -- ah, such foreshadowing can only result in the pounce!

  4. I like the way you leave us in suspense at the end...wondering what's going to happen!

  5. Cat's are such complicated, cunning creatures! Your poem made me feel like I was watching the whole scene. =)

  6. You've shown those actions so clearly, Cathy. I remember our cat so peaceful, then wondered what & how he knew to jump and start that crouching, stalking. Their senses are so much more than ours!
