22 of 30 Looking Forward

When Grandpa lined us up
per Grandma's instructions
to take the posed photo,
when we all smiled,
moved a bit this way
and that,
did he know
that some day those
photos
would be
treasured,
giving us a glimpse
of our life
as the shutter
quickly
snaps
capturing the moment
that we let
     slip
         away?

  1. Cathy,
This makes me think of our most recent "Papp" Family Reunion-they did a big picture with all of us...you captured the feeling of photographs-life-giving at a later time when some in them have passed...
I like thinking about how meaningful photographs are! The slipping away is like taking for granted the people in the pictures will always be...especially when you're younger and you don't really know death yet...

  2. Nice Cathy, I like that idea shared of the photographs, that Grandpa "made you do it". How many kids have groaned as they're called in to do something (for just a minute). My dad had an 8 mm camera & we've had such fun viewing the old moves.

  3. I'm so sorry I haven't been checking in more regularly with your poetry lately.

Love this poem - anything that connects us to our past and our history is precious beyond measure. I feel like that is what Mary Lee was getting at with her post today also, as she cleaned and shined glassware with history.

You are almost there! Amazing that you've had 2 full months of writing every day. You're my hero!

  4. Reading this not only reminds me of family photos but the also how valuable our class pictures will be in 11 eleven years when these little first graders are graduating!
