National Poetry Month: Morning Radiance 27 of 30

Image
Well, I awoke just after sunrise to find the moon still hanging and the sky returned to blue. Moon was in my backyard now and shining brighter than bright. It had managed to radiate an entire extra sphere of light that doubled it in size. I couldn't get a good picture with my phone, but trust me it was glorious. I think moon must have decided to wait on sun's return so I thought I'd continue their game in today's poem. Check out yesterday's Evening Show  for last night's game. Morning Radiance  "I'm ready to play,"      sun says to moon. As she returns to the sky      not a moment too soon. "I've had some good sleep,      and I see you're still here. Let's play a game      that will bring the world cheer." Moon stayed awake      just for this chance. The two look at each other      and start the grand dance. "Let's play Shine,"      says sun as she rises. "I can d...

National Poetry Month: Evening Show 26 of 30

It's always something to see the full moon rise in the blue sky of evening. It's National Poetry Month. This year, I selected " CHOOSE JOY " as my One Little  Word  Phrase. Since I'm on the lookout for JOY, it makes sense to share a poem each day this month about what I find.  Evening Show "Play with me sun,"      the moon pleads from afar. Shining so bright,      it feels like a star. "Let's share the blue sky,"      moon says with a grin. As her circle of light      takes night for a spin. The sun smiles brightly,     i n orange and in red "It's been a long day,      I'm going to bed."  © Cathy L. Mere, 2021

National Poetry Month 12 of 30: Remote Control

Remote Control I wait quietly alone. Isolated. Lonesome. As he enters the living room I hear him asking for me, searching, until he finds me resting on the table, tucked inside the couch, waiting on an armrest, or abandoned near the tv. He smiles, wraps his hands around me, sits down in his big fluffy recliner, puts his feet up, pushes my buttons. Evenings together are my daily delight. © Cathy L. Mere 2014 April is  National Poetry Month .  Again this year, inspired by  Mary Lee Hahn , I'm joining other poetry bloggers (view links in sidebar) taking the challenge to share poetry each day during the month of April.  For thirty days my hope is to write a new poem each day.  The first two years I took this challenge I wrote any poem that found me.  This year, however, I've decided to try to write a poem about an object each day.   If you've read Billy Collins' poem,  The Lanyard , you may have noticed the way he too...

Slice of Life: Spring Symphony 9 of 31

Image
It's  day nine of the March Slice of Life Challenge .  31 days of writing.   Thanks to the amazing  Two Writing Teachers team  for all of their support in this event.   I went out early this morning to enjoy the sunshine and warmer temperatures.  The push and pull between winter and spring was obvious.  The ducks, back in their nesting places, were dealing with the ice still covering the ponds.  The confused seagulls filled the parking lots once again.  The irises pushed up among the decaying leaves of fall were not far from the lingering snow near the trees.  The neighbors snow fence still stood ready though the patio furniture was displayed at the store.  Reese's Eggs fill the shelves.  Surely Spring is near.   Last year during Slice of Life I wrote, Have You Seen Her? after a beautiful surprise snow covered the ground.  This year, I'm a bit done with snow and am hoping for spring so...

Did You See Her? Slice of Life Challenge 6 of 31

Slice of Life Challenge   Thanks Stacey and Ruth :   Two Writing Teachers #slice 2013   5 of 31  Oops!  6 of 31 (Thanks, Mom) For days there is a rumor of her arrival.  "Snow is coming," say the people.  "Will she be here?" the royals wonder.  There was a rumbling she could change her mind.  Still everyone prepares for her impending visit as they rush about to get all that is needed. Finally the day of the Royal Ball arrives:  the food is prepared, the glasses shine, the tables are arranged, and the carpeted dance floor is ready.  Raising their instruments the band begins to play and guests promenade into the ballroom.  Rain makes an early entrance to the party.  Ice is noticed talking with Temperature.  Wind blew in quickly and got the attention of the crowd.  Still, where was Snow?  Was she coming?  The crowd whispered among themselves wondering if she would make an appearance. Snow had a...
