National Poetry Month '26: Home
Hello, National Poetry Month. This month, I will be writing 26 poems for the April celebration. The poems will be about whatever has piqued my interest in the last twenty-four hours.
Checking In
It's Day 10 of National Poetry Month. Last year, I told myself I could write a poem a day in my journal. That went exactly the way you would expect. Womp, womp, womp. This year, I decided I needed a bit more accountability, so I will publish a poem each day in April on this blog. (Well, for at least 26 days...because 2026.) I know this commitment comes with a lot of bad poetry, but my hope is to end the month with a few decent poems to polish.
I didn't create a theme for the year because I haven't been writing enough to put myself in a box like that (or maybe that would've helped... hmmmm). This year, I am writing about whatever has piqued my interest in the course of a day.So far, I've found that each day's poem is led by form. I didn't plan for that to be the case. Somehow, it's been a bit easier to choose a form and then try to give it some meaning. By the end of the month, I hope to flip this tendency to instead create a poem in which meaning leads the way.
Of course, today does not seem to be that day. Ha! How can I resist an etheree on this 10th day of April? I'll reverse it for fun.
