Poetry Month: Backyard Chorus 7 of 30
It's here! It's National Poetry Month! I'll hoping to write a poem every day this month. I've decided to keep it simple this year. I'm going to write about whatever strikes me each day. I suppose it will be like a rollercoaster ride of poetry. You'll never be quite sure what you're in for from day to day.
Today's inspiration: a peeper chorus
Backyard Chorus
The sun slides,
slipping
out of sight.
In the gray-blue
of in-between
the chorus erupts.
First one peep,
then another.
Spring peepers serenade.
Until the chorus
echoes
in the dark night.

I was in the Poconos one spring with students, & then I heard this 'serenade'. We don't have them unless right on the water here, & it was grand to hear them.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so magical! Every time I read one of your poems, I want to move to a more rural area, with more water. I would love to hear this serenade.
