Slice of Life: A Glimpse 11 of 31

Here we go!  It's time for the March Slice of Life Challenge hosted at Two Writing Teachers.  It will be a busy month of writing, commenting, and learning with this community.  This year I've decided to try to focus my writing around happiness.  Stop by today's link up to join the conversation or find some great reading.

Temperatures dip,
gray skies,
flakes gently falling,
covering the world,
winter white.
I watch.
Snow piles
stand in parking lots,
along roads.
Movement slows,
plow trucks race about.
I wait.
Clean snow
turns brown.
The cold,
endless,
holds strong.
I wonder.
The temperatures
begin to rise.
Snow slowly
starts
to melt.
I hope.
The snow
tries
to stay,
but the rain
pushes it away.
I dream.
Skies
turn blue.
The sun rises;
makes everything
brighter.
I smile.
Winter
tries
to hang on...
but spring
has another idea.
I wish.
The grass
fields
reappear.
The earth regains
its color.
I know.
It's time
for winter's
goodbye -
spring knocks
on the door.
Happiness.

  1. I love the formatting of the poem, and the words in the middle tell a story in and of themselves. How gorgeous! Thanks for sharing your words.

  2. Glory! Both the spring happiness AND this poem! I LOVE the line down the middle gradually gaining its footing and the right side stealing the glory from the left side. Brava!

  3. Spring is knocking on our door, too. I love your poem and the way you arranged it, with the balance finally tipping toward spring.

  4. I love the way you structured this. I love the stanzas followed by a short line. And I love how you structured it. Most of all, I love that spring is coming! Woo Hoo! Almost 70 in Colorado today!

  6. Cathy, this is fantastic for so many reasons! You have such talent for poetry. I will be one of the first in line when you decide to publish an anthology of your works!

  8. Wow! You nailed it with this one! I love everything about it - the white space, the choice of left/right/middle, and especially the way you build tension, waiting for spring.

  9. Wow! How you displayed it and wrote it...
