Slice of Life: The Black of Morning 20 of 31

This morning, I'm awake to watch morning arrive.  I suppose I should wish I was still sleeping, but I love this part of the day.  There's something about the quiet of morning.  There's something about watching the world turn from night into day.  Happiness is found in the early hours of silence.   It's day 20 of the Slice of Life Challenge --- and Poetry Friday.   What's not to love about that!

Up.
Up before sunrise.
Up in the black of morning
before the sun
can begin its work
of coloring the sky.

Up.
Up before the blue.
Up when the blackness
of night
still blankets the beauty
of the sleeping world.

Up.
Up before the birds.
Up before their morning songs
can begin to fill
the air
with promise.

Up.
Up before the people.
Up before neighbors begin
moving about,
cars racing
to familiar destinations.

Up.
Up in the quiet.
Up in the silence
before the dawn,
enjoying the possibility
of a day yet to come.
