10 Reasons I'm Thankful I Was a Child of the 70s

Playing Don't Break the Ice with
my great grandfather.
This morning I awoke to snow covering the ground.  I sat down with my cup of coffee to start my morning of writing, reading ---- ok, and procrastinating on the internet.  As I glanced through Pinterest, I found this pin on Laurie's page.

It made me smile to think back to getting up early on Saturday mornings with a box of cereal --- and three channels --- to watch cartoons with my brother.  It made me think of how thankful I am to be a child of the 70s (and a bit of the 80s).  Here's why:

10 Reasons I'm Thankful I Was a Child of the 70s
     10.  Of course, Saturday morning cartoons and cereal.
       9.  You could sleep on the window ledge of your car
            while driving down the highway.
       8.  No bicycle helmets.
       7.  Everyone played outside --- even at night.
       6.  No cell phone cameras.
       5.  Parents chose play over organized activities.
       4.  You could ride your bike anywhere.
       3.  Family TV:  The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie,
            and The Brady Bunch.
       2.  Pop came in bottles.
       1.  No standardized testing.

Children of the 70s (and other decades), what do you remember?  I hope you'll comment.

  2. I am older & a child of the 50s, but my children were 70's, & I would definitely say for both decades 5, 6 & 7. The playing outside was my delight & riding my bike everywhere. Not so much today, right? Thanks for the memories!

  3. Ah...but Cathy...there was standardized testing...only a bit different.(CTBS and others) The only difference was that we would just show up for school and find that we were having testing week. As a child, I was always happy for that week as it was a change in routine and we usually had not homework. I don't remember the news media announcing it and giving parent tips. Of course, maybe the school did tell my parents, and they chose to not put pressure on me. Whatever...too much pressure is on the students now.

As for why I liked being a Child of the 50s-60s....riding my bike everywhere!!!
