Quiet

Today I am joining the Slice of Life community with this poem.

QUIET
It takes a certain amount of quiet
to think
to dream
to plan

It takes moments of silence
Where there isn't the sound of
Traffic
Television
Bright lights
Where electricity's hum cannot be heard
Where the sound of voices
And laughter take us far from our thoughts

Where is your quiet?
In a library's far corners?
In the peaceful flow
of a stream?
In the night stars
twinkling brightly?

If you hope
to think
to dream
to plan
It takes a certain amount of quiet.

  1. I'm on break this week, and you've motivated me to find a certain amount of quiet this week. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I love your line/title Cathy-I'm going to print this out to remind me! I keep being in the midst of 'stuff', like getting my old house ready to sell. I'm actually having three different workers there tomorrow! So, I grab that quiet when I can. Beautiful words--thank you!

  3. Ah, there isn't a lot of quiet in my house (and I'm good with that!), but I love those lines:

It takes a certain amount of quiet
    to think
    to dream
    to plan

My quiet time is sometimes in the car driving to school. My quiet time is sometimes at lunch. My quiet time occurs sometimes early in the morning. My quiet time is reading this post and other slices tonight. Thank you for the reminder to honor and treasure a little quiet time.

  4. I think I seek the quiet when I am awake at 1-3am...no distractions! Love the quet...like Michelle said it's sometimes driving in the car too
