Poetry Month: The Reason for Silence 25 of 30

For the month of April, I'll be writing poetry each day in celebration of National Poetry Month.  I've decided not choose a theme, not to plan the writing, but instead to wait to see what poetry finds me each day.

often i choose
quiet
the weight of words
heavy
the necessity of finding the right one
essential
the nuances which complicate meaning
unending
no one word quite right
cacophonous
no set of words encompassing
significance
often i choose
quiet

  1. Quiet is difficult, but necessary. We need to listen -- not listen to respond as many do -- but listen with quiet. Beautiful poem.

  2. This is absolutely beautiful! Often I don't choose quiet, which regularly leads to putting my foot in my mouth. You way sounds much wiser! I love the structure and pacing of this poem as well.

  3. This poem speaks to my own relationship with words. I love it. "Cacophonous" is one of my favorite words. Sometimes I think it's amazing we can communicate at all, such is the nature of words.

  4. This is my place of choice as well. Listening is vital.

I like how you isolated single words, each like a person sitting back in their chair at a noisy table of talkers...being quiet.
