Poetry Friday: Indulgence
A road trip inspires (using that word loosely) a humorous poetry confession.
About once a year,
I fall.
Temptation
too much
for resistance.
Golden Arches
taunt me,
call me,
pull me;
coaxing.
Two all beef patties,
special sauce,
all of it,
too much
to resist.
Self-control
doesn’t last
all year.
Surrendering.
Without regret.

Good for you!! I haven't had fast food in a long time and now I'm craving McDonald's fries. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are the best in the fries category, for sure!
DeleteHa ha! The girls and I just went to those Golden Arches, though one can no longer go inside at least here, must order from an outside window (different from the drive-through). We don't go often but they're older and reminisce about the playground fun of years ago. No worries about succumbing. The fries are still good!
ReplyDeleteWe were coming back from a bicycle ride in Northern Ohio. The McD's we found still had a play place. I didn't realize they were still in some of the restaurants. My kids loved to play in them too. The old play places usually had the climbing equipment and the ball pit. Oh, the ball pit. I'm sure we won't see those post COVID. I enjoyed the naivety of the 90s.
DeleteSuch a moment is a great opportunity to flex against an unreasonable all-or-nothing attitude, don't you think? Good little poem!
ReplyDeleteSo true! If you're going to indulge, do it with style. Ha!
DeleteWhat a fun meditation on temptation - I'm sure we all have something that once or twice a year, we just can't resist!
ReplyDeleteOh, the places and foods that are hard to resist! I could make a list. Bahahahaha.
DeleteThe golden arches never tempt me, but some Wendy's fries and a kiddie frosty...uh oh...
